Our Strategy

These children are identified on garbage dump sites and in the streets

Their parents are located, and the whole project discussed with the parents and the child. Once agreed upon, the child starts attending the Child Protection and Rehabilitation Trust (CPRT) centre every day for two to three hours.

In CPRT centres a child is taught basic ethics and morality in the form of stories, allowed to play with other children in the CPRT centre and provided with meals. During this period, children also learn about basic social skills, basic hygiene, basic literacy and numeracy, different indoor and outdoor games and team work.

Prior to joining the CPRT centre these children have a full medical check including blood tests for AIDS Virus and Hepatitis B & C Viruses. They are provided with a clean pair of clothes for home and a pair of CPRT centre uniform along with shoes, socks and jumpers for the winters. They also receive a brief lesson in basic hygiene and a hygiene kit is supplied to each child along with a school bag.

CPRT centre staff holds quarterly meetings with the parents and the local community of these children through community awareness programme. In these meetings issues of the children and the parents along with the community are discussed and solutions are looked into.

These children, often found amid the harsh conditions of garbage dump sites and the unforgiving streets, become the focal point of our outreach efforts. Our dedicated team locates their parents, initiating a crucial dialogue about the transformative possibilities offered by the Child Protection and Rehabilitation Trust (CPRT). The comprehensive project is thoroughly discussed with both the parents and the child, ensuring a shared understanding and commitment to the journey ahead.

Upon mutual agreement, the child takes the first step toward a brighter future by enrolling in the CPRT centre. Each day becomes a transformative experience, with the child dedicating two to three hours to participate in activities that go beyond mere education—they offer a profound opportunity to reclaim a stolen childhood and build the foundation for a better life.
